ARC TWO DESCRIPTION
One of King Adam’s Fallstreaks, a unique form of Chosen that is undetectable by any other Chosen, except for other Fallstreaks. This is at the cost of significantly reduced emotions and empathy. Elaine is the sister of Cato Entona. She is abrasive and cold, and has the Chosen power to detect obsessions held by those nearby. Her power manifests as a pain and sickness felt within her.
Both she and he brother are orphans, and are not aware of what Chosen actually are when they first encounter Claudia and her Band. Whether they have parents who were Chosen or were born directly from Cloverra, like Sallith’s children, is not certain. In either case, they appear to be twins of similar age, though they do not know their dates of birth.
Because of her Chosen power, she has a visceral, sometimes physically damaging repulsion toward anyone bearing powerful obsessions. As a form of strange irony, Elaine herself is also obsessed with not becoming obsessed, and remaining in control of herself. She has a tendency to inflict self harm as penance, only telling who she thinks is the offended party after the fact, when they cannot stop her.
Like her brother, Elaine is exceptionally nimble, quick, agile, and skilled in combat, particularly with throwing knives, which she carries at her belt just like her brother.
She is a smooth, earthy-voiced woman in her thirties, and possesses a similar body to that of her brother, with intensely voluptuous hips and thick, powerful legs. They also have the same eye shadow, to more easily notice each other from a distance while working at night. Unlike Cato's red-dyed hair, hers is a natural ash-black, but the same length.
An elite operative of Rose Amon King’s servants, Elaine is a master of stealth and infiltration, and is an even better scout of high places than her brother, thanks to an impeccably trained sense of balance. Her choice of wardrobe is the white shell armor gifted to Cato’s group by King Adam, along with an azure scarf worn around the face.
In their past days as carnival performers, Elaine, Cato, and the other Fallstreaks used their Chosen powers to throw off and dazzle the crowd. By and large, however, they worked in the Carnival performing physical feats of agility and danger, such as knife-throwing, tightrope walking over pits of dangerous monsters, and various tricks and juggling acts with swords. Elaine served as a form of elite security for the Carnival as well, putting a stop to thefts, fires, and other disasters, natural and intended.
However, this way of life felt empty, exploitative, and unsatisfying. Eventually, King Adam discovered them and made them a curious offer that transformed them from regular Chosen into Fallstreaks, saving them from the unhappiness they felt in their current lives and making them practically invisible operatives against any potential Chosen enemies. She does not remember the ritual very well, and part of the deal was to not speak of it. She and her brother both wonder what the true cost of becoming a Fallstreak was.
Elaine will always go wherever her brother does, if possible. However, despite loving him, Elaine knows that sometimes, Cato is the more emotional of the siblings, and is led into strange detours in life, which she feels responsibly for saving him from.
When Cato discovers Claudia’s Band and the reality of what he and his sister both are, he decides to follow her, driven to know the truth of what the Chosen really are and how the Fallstreaks are different. Elaine is also interested in this truth, but must ensure her brother, of all people, does not become obsessed.
